I Love My Cat

In the spring of 2020, I was alone a lot. I would wake up each morning and ride my spin bike to manage my anxiety. Then I would get on the Zoomer from 9 am – 6 pm and provide therapy to individuals and couples who were also anxious and struggling. I would close my computer and take a walk around my neighborhood. Being miles away from my partner was challenging. So, on a total whim I decided to adopt a cat. I had never had a pet and did not think I was an “animal person.” But Buffy arrived and she was so cute, sweet, and easy, that after my trial hour with her, I adopted her. I spent three day and three nights with her in my basement to help her acclimate and after that we were bonded. I never knew that I would develop a relationship with her. That we would adapt to one another’s rhythms (me more to hers than she to mine, of course). That she would just love me and want to be near me. And that my heart would grow bigger in loving her. Now, when I come home and I see her little face in the door, my heart just melts. We make a good team.
